Our Entrepreneurial DNA
Founded in 2017 with a simple objective—to create an independent alternative for telecom operators and digital platforms—Tofane is the result of a bold entrepreneurial vision. To make this happen, Alexandre Pébereau left Orange, where he led the International Carriers division for seven years, turning it into an industry leader. He invested his own savings to finance acquisition audits.
This entrepreneurial approach convinced financial and institutional investors to support the strategy.
Since then, seven companies have been acquired and integrated into the Tofane Global Group, rebranded as iBASIS. It has become the third-largest global player and the leading independent international operator:
- SFR ICS (France)
- Altice Dominicana ICS (Dominican Republic)
- MEO / Portugal Telecom ICS
- iBASIS (United States, Europe, Asia)
- NOS ICS (Portugal)
- Simfony (Internet of Things – Netherlands)
- DIMOCO Messaging (Messaging for digital applications – Austria)

The origin of the name Tofane
The name Tofane refers to a ski resort in the Italian Alps, known for its mountain with three distinct peaks.
This image naturally became a metaphor for the vision defined from the very beginning by Alexandre Pébereau.
Each peak represents one of Tofane’s three founding objectives:
- To build an independent player in international communications
- To become a global industry leader
- To diversify into high-growth technology services, with the ambition of building a listed group
Like the mountain that inspired its name, Tofane was designed to reach each summit step by step - guided by a clear vision, a demanding path, and long-term ambition.
European Corporate Responsibility
Tofane supports ESCP, the world’s first business school (founded in 1819) and the only one with six European campuses. The Group is committed to diversity and to value sharing with employees through incentive schemes and equity participation.
